Performance of multivoltine mulberry silkworm (Bombyx Mori Linn.) topically treated with the phytojuvenoid hormone
Author(s): Roli Srivastava, VB Upadhyay
Abstract: The phytojuvenoid activates the physiological and developmental processes in the living beings; therefore, the topical application of phytojuvenoid on Bombyx mori larvae has been studied to observe any possibility for the heavy production of silk. The experiments were conducted with the phytojuvenoid concentration of 10, 20, 30 and 40 % and number of treatment viz; single, double, triple. The total RNA content in the haemolymph of Bombyx mori larvae at the initial and final stage of spinning was significantly (P < 0.01) influenced due to variation in the phytojuvenoid concentration but the number of larval treatment did not significantly influence the RNA content. Maximum level of RNA content was recorded in 30% phytojuvenoid concentration – triple treated larvae. The phytojuvenoid influences the level of protein in the larvae and caused some beneficial effect on the life pattern of silkworm and the productivity of cocoon.
